Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) has signed one of the largest service contracts in its history with Germany’s Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw). The contract was officially signed today in Koblenz.
As the prime contractor, TKMS will provide long-term modernization and support services for the six German Navy Type 212A submarines. The agreement has a total value of more than €800 million and a duration of ten years.
A key component of the contract is the upgrade of essential onboard systems, including the navigation and the command and weapons control systems, particularly on the four older submarines from the first production batch. The aim is to maintain the technological edge of the German submarine fleet and ensure readiness for future operational requirements in both national and alliance defense contexts.
“This important contract strengthens our established and trusted cooperation with the German Navy in the field of maintenance,” said Oliver Burkhard, CEO of TKMS. “As a maritime systems provider, we will apply the full range of TKMS services and contribute to the fleet’s operational availability with our long-standing expertise.”
Reliable partner for the German Navy
TKMS plays a key role in supporting the German Navy, particularly in logistics and lifecycle management. The company offers services ranging from routine maintenance and repair to modernization and materials logistics. In doing so, TKMS helps ensure the long-term operational readiness of the submarine fleet.
As the main contractor in German submarine construction, TKMS also integrates the capabilities of numerous small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), contributing significantly to industrial value creation and technological innovation within Germany.
